This tool counts whitespace-separated tokens as words. Editors can treat punctuation and language boundaries differently, so check the submission system’s own count.

What does the character count measure?

It uses JavaScript string length, which counts UTF-16 code units. Some emoji and combined characters use more than one unit. Both with-whitespace and without-whitespace totals are shown.

Does counting send my text to the server?

The counting operation runs in your browser and does not send the entered text to the site’s server. The editor does not save a text document for you.

How are time estimates calculated?
